STATUS: GO!
Tools ~ Please bring your own handheld tools. Highlighted tools will be in high demand this weekend:
- gas-powered trimmers and blowers
- axes and hatchets
- loppers and pruning shears
- hand saws: bow, pruning, etc.
- rakes: leaf, garden, fire or landscaping
- sling blades
- gloves, boots, jeans
- safety glasses
Night Hikers: arrive at the kiosk BY 8:30pm. Park as directed and you will be sent to a dark location so your eyes can adjust.
Pre-Hike CHECK-IN and Post-Hike CHECK-OUT is REQUIRED!!
Hikes start PROMPTLY @ 9:00pm!! Two hikes are going: a two-mile out-and-back on the access road to the river, and a longer one that will return to the kiosk via the new trails.
We want to limit flashlight use to increase chances of seeing night critters, but we know that's scary! If you have a red filter for your flashlight, use it. Local retailers (like Gables and Dick's) may sell lights with red filters, or the filters themselves.
BUG SPRAY is a MUST!! Dogs are welcome but must be restrained on a 6-foot leash, just as in every other state park.

Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venture Scouts are encouraged to consider projects in the Park for Service Projects, Conservation Projects, and Eagle Scout Projects, etc. There are many opportunities including small and large bridges, numerous benches and tables, and spur trails, just to name a few. All projects will be considered so request one of the projects above or we encourage you to design your own project and submit it for review.
The mandatory first step for all Scouting projects is to contact John Sims, Scoutmaster Troop 57 (Newnan) and Coweta District Member at jcsims@peoplepc.com for additional information and directions.

Donate (via PayPal) to the Friends of Chattahoochee Bend and help us prepare the park to open in 2011. Your contribution will be used to purchase and or rent the tools, materials, machinery and supplies we will need to build the 24+ miles of trail at the park.
(Donations in memorial of
Mr. Bob Johnson and
Mr. Bob Lore may be made here.)

Previous Announcements:
Ground Breaking (click to show/hide)
On Sept. 29, 2009, the Bend Friends welcomed delegates from GA DNR, the state Friends organization, GA state government and Coweta County government to the Flat Rock area at Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the official groundbreaking ceremony.
Chapter Officers (click to show/hide)
In a unanimous vote at the July Board of Directors meeting, the Officer positions of Chapter President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer were filled by the interim officers, respectively: Dean Jackson, Glenn Flake, Pamela Giles and Robbie Hinely. Congrats!
2009 Annual Meeting (click to show/hide)
The first annual meeting of the Chattahoochee Bend Friends chapter was on June 6, 2009, at the Panther Creek Community Center in Sargent.
Updates on park progress were given, nominees for the Board were introduced, and GA Rep. Lynn Smith spoke about the beginning of the park's history while votes were counted. The entire slate was elected.
From now on, we will make a Weather Assessment prior to every regularly-scheduled volunteer day. Most of the time it will be the night before, but in some cases it may be as late as an hour before the scheduled start.
If a "No-Go" or a "delayed start" is issued, we will change the status here and we will email everyone.
Events for the days below are also on our Facebook Group, so the status will change there, as well (note that you have the ability to receive notifications via text message from facebook).
