Volunteer days are usually the fourth Saturday of every month. Now that trail building is about to commence, additional days will be added as needed. The calendar is below...

"Prelude to The Trail"

STATUS: GO!

The plan is for the riverside trail to be the first trail built at The Bend. It will be the longest trail at the park, extending from the bend all the way to the SW border of the park. To facilitate access and equipment hauling, we need to clear the road that we hiked back in October.

We will meet at the park kiosk and commute to the Clark Rd. entrance gate. Please do not park on Clark Rd. We will clear the access road from the gate south to Flat Rock/Payton Road and north to the river, as much as time and weather permit.

Meet at the park kiosk (enter via Payton Road, northside). Volunteers please bring gloves, boots, hand saws, chain saws, leaf rakes, steel rakes, shovels, weed-eater, sling blades and safety glasses.

Weather Assessments

From now on, we will make a Weather Assessment prior to every regularly-scheduled volunteer day. Most of the time it will be the night before, but in some cases it may be as late as an hour before the scheduled start.

Volunteer Day Status is now posted on this page (at left).

Events for the days below are also on our Facebook Group, so the status will change there, as well (note that you have the ability to receive notifications via text message from facebook).

If a "No-Go" is issued, we will change the status here and on Facebook. We will also email everyone.

Announcements

The Ground's Been Broken!

On Sept. 29, 2009, the Bend Friends welcomed delegates from GA DNR, the state Friends organization, GA state government and Coweta County government to the Flat Rock area at Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the official groundbreaking ceremony.

Chapter Officers (click to show/hide)

In a unanimous vote at the July Board of Directors meeting, the Officer positions of Chapter President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer were filled by the interim officers, respectively: Dean Jackson, Glenn Flake, Pamela Giles and Robbie Hinely. Congrats!

Annual Meeting (click to show/hide)

The first annual meeting of the Chattahoochee Bend Friends chapter was on June 6, 2009, at the Panther Creek Community Center in Sargent.

Updates on park progress were given, nominees for the Board were introduced, and GA Rep. Lynn Smith spoke about the beginning of the park's history while votes were counted. The entire slate was elected.
